Order of the Owl and Spirits and The Melchizedek Children
Darwin Deez is from New York. Friends is from Florida. Nomen Novum is the local support. In this case, each band makes this a show not to miss. It’s a night of minimal pop, new wave, experimental brilliance.
Correction: Friends had to cancel this show. It will be Darwin Deez and Nomen Novum.

Wednesday, November 17 – Future Islands, Lonnie Walker, Nomen Novum @ Eyedrum 10pm, $7
Atlanta’s Nomen Novum is one of my favorite local bands. The duo of David Norbery and Mark Godfrey blend an assortment of atmospheric, electronic recordings with hazy guitars and experimental instrumentation. Their sound reminds me of a Radiohead/Vampire Weekend union, though Nomen Novum can’t outright be compared to either. There’s a sincerity and playfulness in their music that resonates through each song.

Thursday, November 18 – Back Pockets, Lera Lynn, Night Driving in Small Cars (UPSTAIRS), A.Grimes, Quiet Hooves, Husseins (Basement) @ The Star Bar, FREE
Atlanta and Athens are so close, yet they rarely hug each other on the same stages. Almost never on stages and basements in one night. But(t) . . . It will at Star Bar for an insane night of rainbow exploding magic for FREEBIES! No money at the door. NO MONEY AT THE DOOR. BACKPOCKETS are a hodgepodge of Atlanta Art/Theater/Music/Bored Kids making and creating little worlds of happiness. QUIET HOOVES cram 10 Athens music regulars into a mix of off kilter dancey madness. A GRIMES scares people. LERA LYNN soothes you. NIGHT DRIVING IN SMALL TOWNS makes toes tap right at the edge of yer sneakers. HUSSEINS are punk. Punk punks.
No one really knows how to make a press release.
