Moon Mix: Efren, DMR, Trench Party, and more

One of my favorite new acts from last year has a new single out. Efren is working on their third album, and “Moonshine in the Gutter” is the first track off the upcoming release, Rise Up and Melt, due out in June 2011. Grab a malt beverage or your favorite downer, and get lost in this:

Now that you’ve melted from Scott Low’s voice, listen to a new track from Detroit Mutant Radio to perk you up. They’ve released a new single, “In the Rain” where Mr.Creech raps about getting wet on top of some menacing bass lines. There’s some fierce guitar work toward the end of the track, too. DMR will be playing at Eastside Lounge on March 9. Get the single here.

Trench Party put their latest lo-fi indie album, Decadence on Bandcamp, so read a review here and then head over for a $5 download. Or you can stream the album (for free) while you read the lyrics. That’s fun, especially for a record like Decadence.

And if saucy soul and funk makes you happy, head out tomorrow night, February 25, to catch Soulphonics & Ruby Velle at The Highland Inn Ballroom with George Hughley and DJ Tanner before and after.

Finally, get the winter issue of Target Audience Magazine now! It’s got a great editorial on pirating music, an expert article on breaking the rules if you’re a drummer, awesome photos from Rose Riot Photography, art, film, literature, and poetry.
